Typical Application: Simultaneous Bolt Tensioning on Large Flanges
This is a typical application scenario provided for reference. It does not describe a specific customer project.
Reference setup for tightening many large studs on a pressure-vessel or turbine flange at the same time with 1500 Bar hydraulic bolt tensioners, giving even preload around the joint.

Typical application scenario — this page describes how our equipment is commonly configured for this type of job. It is a reference, not a specific customer project.
Scenario
Large flanges on pressure vessels, turbines, compressors and heat exchangers are often held by many heavy studs. If the studs are tightened one by one, the gasket can be compressed unevenly. Hydraulic bolt tensioners stretch several studs at the same time, so the preload is much more even.
Typical challenges
- Large stud sizes (often M36 and above)
- Need for even preload around the whole flange
- Limited space around the nuts
Equipment usually used
- HST-S Series single-stage bolt tensioners
- HST-M Series multi-stage compact tensioners — where radial space is limited
- HTP-A Series pneumatic ultra-high-pressure pumps with manifold and hoses
Typical procedure
- Calculate target bolt load and tensioner pressure from stud size, material and gasket requirements.
- Fit tensioners on 50% or 100% of the studs, connect them in a loop to one pump.
- Pressurise, run the nuts down, release, and repeat for the remaining studs if needed.
- Do a final check pass at the target pressure.
Send us stud size, number of studs and the required bolt load, and we will help you choose the right tensioner size.
